In the Queendom of 'Obliviousness', there lived a witch. Her business was doing terribly. She had committed crimes and lied and misled people and she wasn't trusted anymore. She then decided to release a disease causing particle in the Queendom to sell her potions.

The disease causing particle was released, and some people died. She made a deal with the Queen and the newspapers of the kingdom to scare people further and in return she would give them half of her profits.

The newspapers' front pages now screamed horror. And people were aptly very scared. 

Now the witch announced that she had made a magic potion that could save everyone. The newspapers hyped up this potion. Forgetting her past misdeeds, people clamoured for this potion.

After taking the potion, many got ill..but the witch said, 'Oh, but that's expected! That shows that the potion is working!'

But even after taking the potion, people were catching the disease causing particle and the witch said, 'Oh! I never said that you won't get the disease after getting the potion, it will just reduce the severity of symptoms!'

Now the situation developed such that people were seeing the ones taking the potion get the disease faster than the ones not taking the potion! And here again came the newspapers to keep the business of potions going. The newspapers said the opposite! They said that the ones taking the potion had seen a drastic drop in getting the disease. And people believed the newspapers over their own observation.

But there were some who saw through the magic potion scam. They started voicing their views and telling their near and dear ones. These people were quickly smeared across all the newspapers and even their near and dear ones ostracized them.

There were some good witches who came up with good potions of their own that worked! The Queendom's soldiers shut down their apothecaries so they couldn't sell these good potions anymore.

Oh! But the disease kept afflicting these people who had taken the potion and now they were getting severe cases and even deaths. They were getting agitated. The evil witch then asked the Queen for help. The Queen held a gathering one day. In an emotion filled speech, she said, 'This disease causing particle is getting out of control. The magic potion is now our only hope but it would only work if everyone takes it. All of these people who are refusing to take it are making the particle even more dangerous. People are dying because of the ones not taking the potion. If every one of you does not take this potion, the particle is going to get much much worse.'

The next day, there was hatred, there were fights. The people who didn't take the potion because they saw that the potion did not work and had actually killed some, were ganged up on. Instead of hanging the witch and overthrowing the Queen, people were turning on their friends and family forcing them to take this potion that didn't really work well and could actually harm them. 

The Queen laughed in her chambers seeing these tumbles. As the people were busy fighting amongst themselves, the Queen and the witch together were planning their further demise. The Queen had made a deal with the witch for booster potions because they were confident that they could keep manipulating the people with the newspapers, with her speeches and keep fooling them into believing that these potions worked and weren't actually harming their health. It was a win-win for both of them. Unhealthy and divided amongst themselves people were easier to control and turn into slaves for the Queen. As for the witch, she could sell even more potions to deal with the harmful effects of her magic potion✨.

On language

I read old literature a lot. I have read current literature a lot as well. And even though there is a lot that I disagree on with the philosophies of those old writers, there is still so much wisdom that I do agree with. Wisdom that they gained from their own life and observations.  I can't help but marvel at their eloquence, how they do not use simple English. I highly value how they are able to use complex words which convey so perfectly what they want to convey with such finesse, the way they so fully seem to use the tools that language provides. I disagree with the ones who vehemently purport the use of simple English and laud the skill required to do so. Okay, I agree with the latter, it does require skill and is sometimes needed. But when and where you can use complex English, you should be free to do so. It is playing with words on difficulty high. I aspire to reach there. I do not care much for simple boring sentences that tell you things but do not infuse you with feelings...

I am the same as I was. Still wake up later than I intend to. Change of place neither changed me nor did it feel like diving into cold water. I have quickly transitioned into comfort here. I hoped to wake up with the sun but the sun here rises earlier, so that's a challenge. Is it me or is the sun here more ruthless than it was in my earlier place?  Eager to see how I settle into the social networks and classroom dynamics. It's going to be a long eventful two years and I'm hoping I accomplish plenty and not disappoint myself. I hope to stay on top of my assignments; the research and internship parts seem intimidating but I am going to face them as they come. I want those periods to be enjoyable.
